The District School Board of Niagara said Tuesday it has received the go-ahead to offer 4,000 eligible DSBN staff to receive the COVID-19 vaccine during April break.

The news come as the province has decided to keep schools open, despite a third wave of the virus causing record-breaking daily case loads in Ontario.

DSBN said the vaccinations for eligible workers, which will include educators and other staff who work in school environments, will run April 10-18.

“Vaccinating staff who work in schools means that another layer of safety and protection is there for students, staff, and their families,” said Warren Hoshizaki, DSBN Director of Education, in a statement.

“We are once again thankful to NRPH and Niagara Health for recognizing the important role that these staff have in the community.”

The vaccinations will be supported by Niagara Health and Niagara Public Health.
