Turf football field could be coming to McMillan Park

Should an artificial turf field be installed next to Thorold Secondary School? The city wants your feedback

A blanket of snow covers McMillan Park, where a new football field made of artificial turf is being proposed.

The City of Thorold is asking residents for feedback on a proposal to install a turf field at McMillan Park.

The proposal, put forth by the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN), aims to install a full-size synthetic turf football field with new bleachers. The existing baseball diamond at McMillan Park would remain in place, but the splash pad and playground would need to be relocated.

"The new field proposal intends to address a number of challenges facing Thorold Secondary School and will allow them the opportunity to expand and align its football and athletic programming with programs currently offered at other schools in the Niagara Region," reads a statement on the city's website.

Thorold residents are invited to fill out the following feedback form by February 15.

“We’ve already met with a couple of the local user groups to review the options but we’re going to go live with a campaign online for general public feedback,” said Curtis Dray, manager of community services, at Wednesday’s meeting of the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Committee. "What we're looking for is general comments on what the community would like to see. Any feedback, positive or negative, it's all welcome. We're going to compile the notes and sit down with the school board."
