Three new physicians will begin practicing in Thorold this week, alleviating the shortage of medical professionals which has left many patients without a designated medical contact in town.

Niagara Region confirmed to ThoroldToday on Monday that the three doctors will begin practicing at Thorold Family Health Centre on Front Street.

The news comes as long-time physician, Dr. Preston Zuliani announced that he will be downsizing his practice after 45 years.

The region described Zuliani as a visionary in building the clinic and said he has suggested patients enroll with the new physicians

Dr. Sarah Chadwick

Sarah Chadwick studied medicine at the University of Toronto and completed her Family Medicine residency training in Niagara. She has spent the past year working as a locum family physician in Okotoks, Alberta and is excited to be starting a practice with the Thorold Family Health Centre.

Dr. Michael Lane

Michael Lane grew up in Thorold, and attended Saba University School of Medicine while completing clinical rotations throughout the United States. He returned to the Niagara Region for his Family Medicine Residency. His practice interests include a broad scope family practice.

"The latest recruits have all graduated from the Niagara McMaster Family Medicine program which demonstrates the success in the partnerships that the school has with the medical community, the municipalities and the Niagara Physician Recruitment Program," said the region in a statement.

The new recruitments bring the total count of Thorold physicians to 14, a number that has more than doubled in the past six years.
