With shopping, government services and social interaction moving online in an ever-increasing rate, the city of St Catharines wants to help seniors navigate the digital space with help of a new workshop program starting next week.

Cyber-Seniors participants will be able to connect with volunteer mentors starting on August 9, through either phone or Zoom to learn how to use software and online services, in addition to a series of computer literacy webinars made available on the website.

Barriers to technology is an issue that affects many elderly people. A study in the magazine Healthcare that analyzed senior’s perspectives on technology found that many times frustration with new technology made older adults unsure if they could use it, often leaving them unmotivated to even try.

The initiative is supported through the Ontario Seniors Community Grant.
