Santa to visit downtown Thorold on Saturday

The Thorold BIA has invited the McGregor Carollers and Santa to come downtown to celebrate Christmas; 'It’s a great event for the whole family'

The Thorold BIA wants to celebrate Christmas with the whole community.

That's why they've invited a group of carollers and Santa to come spread some yuletide joy on Saturday.

“We kind of wanted to ramp up a little what we’ve been doing in December in the past,” the BIA’s coordinator Amy Schanbacher tells ThoroldToday. “We thought it would be kind of fun to have carolling to bring people downtown shopping.”

For the past two weeks, the McGregor Carollers have been filling the downtown streets with song, and on Saturday, they'll be making one last round.

“From 12 p.m. to 3 p.m, we’re going to have the McGregor Carollers strolling around the downtown,” Schanbacher says. “They’ll be carolling on the street as well as inside the businesses. We’re also going to have Santa Claus there. From 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. he’ll be walking around Front Street and then from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. he’ll be at the Moose and Goose for some more photos.”

The BIA is also organizing a holiday decorating contest that has seen local business owners duke it out for the most festive shopping window. Thorold residents are invited to vote for their favourite window on the BIA’s Facebook page.

Schanbacher says she hopes to see the people come out in droves on Saturday to celebrate Christmas.

“It’s free and it’s a great event for the whole family,” she says.
