Runway of Recognition eyeing first week of June for next year's ceremony

A venue for next year's ceremony is still being figured out
Runway of Recognition
Last month's long-delayed Runway of Recognition ceremony celebrated inductees from 2019.

The Thorold Runway of Recognition held their yearly awards ceremony just last month, but the committee in charge of organizing the local sports recognition event is already looking toward next year’s ceremony, which will be held in the first week of June.

Usually the Runway of Recognition event is held in early spring but the decision to delay was made to accommodate the winners of the White Foundation scholarship.

Said councillor Tim Whalen, who is the chair of the committee, “The two inductees of the scholarship are usually chosen in June, toward the end of the school year. They don’t have any other venue to hand it out at other than our department. We’re behind the eight ball already because we just had our event in October in stead of March. This would give us lots of time.”

Last month’s ceremony was delayed for a year and half because of Covid-19, and paid tribute to the inductees for 2019 of the Runway of Recognition. A ceremony for 2020 was cancelled all-together.

A venue for next year is still being figured out, but the committee had only glowing remarks for the ceremony held at John Michael’s Banquet this year.

In the coming weeks the City of Thorold will start scouting for new inductees. Stay tuned as more information becomes available.
