Reconstruction of Broderick Avenue, between Westmount Avenue and West Street, began today, July 20.

This project supports a major goal of the City of Thorold’s current Strategic Plan: to build and sustain infrastructure that generates civic pride.

“We were pleased to see Council approve this key infrastructure project as part of the 2023 budget,” says Manoj Dilwaria, chief administrative officer. “We had a great turnout at the public information centres that were held for this project. I’d like to thank all of the local area residents who took the time to participate and provide their feedback, which was incorporated into the final design that was recently approved by Council.”

In 2020, the City initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for this project, where a variety of road cross section improvements and replacement alternatives were evaluated. This process considered the City’s Complete Streets design, active transportation accommodations and improvements to the geometric layout of the road, street lighting and overall aesthetics of the neighbourhood.

Improvements will include the replacement of the existing storm sewer, replacement of sidewalks and curbs, and the installation of new roadway lighting.

Construction is estimated to be complete by summer 2024.
