Public Health Ontario reports 23 deaths and 1,684 hospitalizations testing positive for COVID-19

Public Health Ontario is reporting 1,684 people in hospital with COVID-19, and 23 deaths today.

The April 23 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • 3,274 recoveries and 3,820 new confirmed COVID-19 cases
  • Of the new cases reported today, 463 were not fully vaccinated, 716 were fully vaccinated, 2,420 had received a booster and 221 are listed as vaccination status unknown.
  • 180 patients are in ICU with COVID-19 related illness.
  • 81 patients in ICU with COVID-19 are on ventilators (14 of those patients no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • The province reported 20,004 tests were processed yesterday with a 19.1 per cent positivity rate.
  • Another 8,035 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, nearly 24 million tests have been completed.

Vaccines

  • There were 35,549 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
  • 32,572,210 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 12,156,542 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,238,060 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 1,191,712 recoveries and 12,728 deaths, 4,454 of those in long-term care homes.

Not all hospitals report a daily bed census over the weekend.
