Reconstruction of Broderick Avenue Phase One, between Westmount Avenue and West Street, began on July 20, 2023 and is now complete.

This project supports a major goal of the City of Thorold’s current Strategic Plan:
To build and sustain infrastructure that generates civic pride.

“We were pleased to see Council approve this key infrastructure project as part of the 2023 budget,” says Manoj Dilwaria, chief administrative officer. “We had a great turnout at the Public Information Centres that were held for this project. I’d like to thank all of the residents who took the time to participate and provide their feedback, which was incorporated into the final design and implemented.”

In 2020, the City initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for this project, where a variety of road cross section improvements and replacement alternatives were evaluated. This process considered the City’s Complete Streets design, active transportation accommodations and improvements to the geometric layout of the road, street lighting and overall aesthetics of the neighbourhood.

The scope of the project included the replacement of the existing storm sewer, water main lowering, reinstatement of sanitary and storm laterals, replacement of the existing sidewalks and curbs, as well as, the installation of new asphalt pavement, new raised boulevard median, retaining wall and the installation of new roadway lighting.

Thanks in part to the Canada Community Building Fund, the major works for the Phase One Broderick Avenue Reconstruction have now been completed and the road is ready for public use.
