Public Health Ontario reported 1,290 new COVID cases today.
The latest updates noted 970 recoveries and 10 deaths, including one death that occurred more than a month ago and is being added based on data cleaning.
The Dec. 9 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:
- There are 8,661 active cases, up from 8,351 yesterday.
- Of the new cases, 548 are unvaccinated, 42 are partially vaccinated and 617 are fully vaccinated. The vaccination status of 83 people is unknown.
- 309 people are in hospital testing positive for COVID-19, down 24 from yesterday.
- 155 people are in ICU due to COVID-19, which is the same as yesterday. Of those, 135 people are testing positive and 20 are testing negative. There are 94 people in ICU on a ventilator, down three from yesterday.
- For cases in the hospital but not ICU, 99 people are unvaccinated, 22 are partially vaccinated and 75 are fully vaccinated. In ICU, there are 69 people unvaccinated, 15 partially vaccinated and 24 fully vaccinated.
- 11.3 million people in Ontario (77 per cent of the population) are fully vaccinated, 609,037 people (four per cent of the population) are partially vaccinated.
- 914,723 people have received a booster since August 2021.
- The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 14.61 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 6.15 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 4.12 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
- The province reported 40,242 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 3.5 per cent positivity rate.
- Today's new cases include 44 newborns to four-year-olds, 230 kids ages five to 11, 111 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 408 people between 20 and 39 years old, 318 people between 40 and 59 years old, 150 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 27 people over 80 years old.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 627,611 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 608,896 recoveries and 10,054 deaths.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,259.6 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Ontario's average seven-day incidence rate from Nov. 29 to Dec. 5 was 45.3 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 17.4 per cent compared to the seven-day period starting of Nov. 23.
