Public Health Ontario reported 1,009 new COVID cases today.
The latest updates noted 1,129 recoveries and eight deaths.
The Dec. 8 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:
- There are 8,351 active cases, down from 8,479 yesterday.
- 333 people are in hospital testing positive for COVID-19, down seven from yesterday.
- 155 people are in ICU due to COVID-19, which is down 10 from yesterday. Of those, 135 people are testing positive and 20 are testing negative. There are 97 people in ICU on a ventilator, up two from yesterday.
- For cases in the hospital but not ICU, 122 people are unvaccinated, 10 are partially vaccinated and 75 are fully vaccinated. In ICU, there are 70 people unvaccinated, three partially vaccinated and 19 fully vaccinated.
- 11.3 million people in Ontario (77 per cent of the population) are fully vaccinated, four per cent of the population is partially vaccinated.
- 866,170 people have received a booster since August 2021.
- The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 14.35 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 6.17 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 3.91 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
- The province reported 38,502 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 3.3 per cent positivity rate.
- Today's new cases include 32 newborns to four-year-olds, 176 kids ages five to 11, 85 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 308 people between 20 and 39 years old, 275 people between 40 and 59 years old, 120 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 15 people over 80 years old.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 626,321 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 607,926 recoveries and 10,044 deaths.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,250.9 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Ontario's average seven-day incidence rate from Nov. 28 to Dec. 4 was 44.4 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 17.8 per cent compared to the seven-day period starting of Nov. 22.
