ELORA – It’s said that every dog has its day, and in the case of one dog and its owner that happened to be Friday after both came out of a fall into the Elora Gorge with minor injuries.

Carl, a dog, and its owner had to be rescued from the gorge around 4 p.m. Friday by Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue.

Deputy chief Jonathan Karn said the call initially came in as just a person rescue but it turned out the man had gone in to assist his dog after it had fallen about 15 meters into the gorge.

Both man and dog had been in the river and therefore the man was taken to Groves Hospital as a precaution due to some signs of being hypothermic and the dog was taken to a local vet by OPP. Both were found to have minor injuries only.

Karn reminded the public to keep animals on a leash, especially around the Elora Gorge which has some slippery spots close to the edge this time of the year.
