Prospective homeowners have a rare chance to buy one of the most characterful buildings in Niagara.
The house, at 20 Auditorium Circle Grimsby, is better known as one of the “Painted Ladies” of Grimsby.
The Victorian-style cottage, built in 1900, is part of a collection of brightly coloured houses in the historic Grimsby Beach neighbourhood.
The houses in the circle rose to fame when the residents started painting the exteriors around 30 to 35 years ago. They’ve since become a tourist attraction, with people coming from throughout Canada and even from the United States to look at the properties.
Jeff Smith of eXp Realty is the agent listed for the property. He said the home, priced for $499,999, was “hands down the most unique property I’ve ever put on the market. It’s a doll house.”
The 900-square-foot home has one bedroom, one bathroom and an open-plan living space and kitchen. The star feature, though, is the extravagant exterior which features carved woodwork and a flamboyant paint scheme of yellow, purple and green.
The house was listed for sale on April 19 and has already generated lots of interest. Smith said there were 24 showings between Tuesday and Friday.
It’s a rare opportunity to buy one of the Painted Ladies, since the last one to come available was this same unit, listed four years ago. “It’s such a little gem,” said Smith. “It’s so beautiful, it’s like walking into candy land.”
