NRPH reports 5 new cases of COVID-19 in Niagara on Thursday. The number of active cases being tracked by Public Health is now 52.
The death toll remained unchanged.
In an update yesterday afternoon, Niagara Health reported that they currently have no Covid-patients for the first time since September.
Other health-care facilities in the region also remain free from outbreaks. Currently there is only a single active outbreak in an unspecified location.
Ontario Update
Public Health Ontario reported 213 new COVID cases in today's update (Aug. 5).
The report includes 183 new recoveries and 14 deaths. Twelve of the deaths reported today were from February and May 2021 and were previously unreported.
The deaths include five people between 40 and 59 years old, seven people between 60 and 79 years old, and two people over 79 years.
Since yesterday's report, nine people have been hospitalized with COVID-19 and two people were admitted to an intensive care unit.
The August 5 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 1,706 active, lab-confirmed cases, up from 1,690 yesterday.
- 113 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario.
- There are 110 patients in intensive care units with COVID-related illness (of those, 32 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
- 58 people are on ventilators due to COVID-related illness (of those, 19 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
- The province reported 23,494 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.2 per cent positivity rate.
- There are 8,669 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 16.6 million tests to date.
- Of the new cases reported today, 14 are from Waterloo, 44 are from Toronto, 31 cases are from Peel, five are from Simcoe-Muskoka, four are from Grey-Bruce, and 18 are from York Region.
- Today's cases include 32 individuals aged 19 and under, 102 people between 20 and 39 years old, 54 people between 40 and 59 years old, 19 people between 60 and 79 years old, and five people over 79 years old.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 551,338 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 540,258 recoveries and 9,374 deaths.
