Keefer Mansion could get neighbours in the future, after a developer approached the city to announce it wants to build a three-story building with room for 6 apartments.
The application to re-zone 13 St. David St West recently came before the council, and proposes that the empty lot, situated south of Keefer Mansion and Mike's Auto should be home to a total of 6 apartments and a bottom floor used as commercial space.
"This site is a significant landmark," argued planner Susan Smyth, who represents the developer, and said that the company has already done a slew of studies to vouch for the suitability, including a Heritage Study and technical evaluations to ensure construction would not harm nearby buildings through vibrations.
The building would be home to 3 units per floor, consisting of 2 one-bedrooms, and a single bedroom unit. The building will also feature parking spaces, which will require a widening of the roads, which the developer assured the city would not fall on them.
The city did not receive any comments about the application prior to the meeting. The city will make a decision on the application on a later date.
