Thorold’s current Mayor Terry Ugulini has announced he’ll be seeking re-election as Mayor of Thorold in the upcoming municipal elections.

“Thorold is well positioned to lead Niagara out of the pandemic,” read a press statement from Ugulini's campaign office. “During the pandemic City Council and Staff focused on keeping our Community safe and healthy, while continuing to move the City forward. I believe we succeeded in doing that! Major infrastructure projects were completed and our residential growth was matched with a surge in commercial/industrial growth.”

Mayor Ugulini was elected as Mayor in 2018 after serving as a City Councillor from 2014 to 2018. Under his leadership Thorold became the eighth-fastest growing municipality in Canada, a growth that has gone hand-in-hand with some growing pains.

"We are the 'HUB', of the Niagara Region and our Economic Development, Business Retention and Expansion Strategy is starting to pay the expected dividends, like good paying jobs and an increased tax base," continues the Mayor's statement. “In the next term of Council there will be many important decisions and issues to be addressed, beginning with the implementation of our new Official Plan.”

Mayor Ugulini's concludes his statement by sharing his excitement for the upcoming election campaign.

“I look forward to discussing and debating the issues that are important to our Community," he says. "With your support, I hope to lead the City of Thorold through the next four years, 'It’s Our Time.'”

The municipal elections will take place on October 24, 2022.
