A man has died in Niagara Falls after an interaction with police earlier today, a press release from the service said.
At around 2:15 p.m. on Monday, an adult male who had ‘had an interaction with Niagara Parks Police" died in the area of Hiram Street and River Road, right next to the Rainbow Bridge. Police did not say if any shots were fired, or what the cause of death was.
‘Due to the nature of the interaction, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked their mandate,’ said a statement from the Niagara Regional Police at 4:00 p.m.
The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency that investigates incidents involving police officers where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
The incident prompted police to close down an area around the bridge and asked the public to stay away.
