WATCH: Applications open today for two federal COVID benefit programs

Applications for the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB) and the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB) open as of this morning

Update:
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced today that applications for the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB) and the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB) open as of this morning.

The CRCB allow those who are forced to miss work to care for loved ones at home to receive $500/week. This includes:

  • a child under age 12 due to the closures of schools or daycares because of COVID-19
  • a family member with a disability or a dependent because their day program or care facility is closed due to COVID-19
  • a child, a family member with a disability, or a dependent who is not attending school, daycare, or other care facilities under the advice of a medical professional due to being at high-risk if they contract COVID-19

He also announced that next week, applications will open for the Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB) for those in need assistance but aren't eligible for EI.

Dr. Theresa Tam stated during ther statement that reported cases in Ontario and Quebec account for 80 per cent of the cases reported in Canada over the last seven days

"While right now we are on the wrong trajectory in some parts of the country, if we all commit to doing our part to reduce the spread of the virus, I am confident we can right the ship, and plank the curve again, and we can do this together," she said.
