LIVE: Ontario to launch action plan for long term care homes

Premier Doug Ford says province working to get hospital workers into long term care facilities to manage serious outbreaks; emergency order for long term care workers to be issued Tuesday night

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says the province will be launching an enhanced action plan for COVID-19 in long term care homes tomorrow. 

Ford also revealed Tuesday that the province is currently working on a plan to have 'hospital-based care teams' from healthcare systems 're-deployed' to long term care facilities in order to manage COVID-19 outbreaks. 

The province will be issuing an emergency order tonight that will limit employees at long term care homes to work at one facility.

Premier Doug Ford holds a press conference today at 1:45 p.m. from Queen's Park in Toronto.

He will be joined by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, and Rod Phillips, Minister of Finance, to make an announcement.

The press conference will be streamed live on Ford's YouTube channel, and Village Media will carry the livestream feed.

The announcement has been pushed to 2:30 p.m. Stay tuned.
