Thorold is getting its first animal shelter.

On Wednesday, Lincoln County Humane Society, LCHS, announced it will be expanding to a property on the Welland border, at the former Truck Toppers location on Hwy 20. The society said it had bought the land, and is now in the process of renewing the location to suitable for a shelter, which will offer services similar to those at its St. Catharines location.

“The LCHS is pleased to share this news with our community and municipalities across Niagara” said Kevin Strooband, Executive Director. “As we expand our footprint within Niagara, we are ready to help more animals and accept more municipal contracts.”

The facility will offer 10,000 square foot of space for care of homeless and adoptable pets.

The society did not announce an opening date, but said it will hold a grand opening once the retrofit is complete.

Currently, the LCHS provides compassionate, humane services across Niagara and Animal Care, Control and Humane Services for the municipalities of St. Catharines, Thorold, Grimsby and Niagara-on-the-Lake.
