NEWS RELEASE
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY NIAGARA

Help Niagara Habitat for Humanity ReStores restore our community by bringing a non-perishable food item into any of their three ReStores from Sept. 27 to Oct. 7, and you’ll receive a coupon to save 25 percent on your entire purchase!

“We’re all in this together. Two of the basic necessities of life are food and shelter, and people in our region are in need of both,” said Mark Carl, CEO Habitat Niagara. “The effects of COVID-19 have caused a surge in demand for emergency food support and these agencies have had to meet increasing demand on their services, we’re hoping in some small way that we can help.”

Last year the promotion was held over three-days and 283 pounds of non-perishable food items were collected by the Niagara ReStores. This year they have extended the promotion to ten days in the hopes of collecting more food.

Food insecurity is a significant problem in Niagara. Over the past year, some agencies have seen a 70 percent increase in demand for foodbank assistance.

The Niagara ReStores are supporting the below local food programs through its food drive.

  • Habitat for Humanity ReStore Fonthill, 2499 Hwy 20 – The Hope Centre. Needs: Pasta sauce, canned fruit and vegetables, juice, canned pasta, and rice.
  • Habitat for Humanity ReStore Grimsby, 185 South Service Rd. – The Grimsby Benevolent Fund. Needs: Children’s snacks (granola bars, fruit cups, pudding cups, applesauce)
  • Habitat for Humanity ReStore St. Catharines, 150 Bunting Rd. – Southridge Shelter. Needs: Cereal, pasta, pasta sauce, peanut butter.

“We are excited to continue to build our collaboration with Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore in Grimsby, as we are able to promote and enhance the wellbeing for the good of the community,” said Ala Benish, Food Program manager, Grimsby Benevolent Fund. “This food drive will help to provide an assortment of food items to local families utilizing our emergency food services and provide opportunities to fulfill their nutritional needs.”

Habitat Niagara wishes to thank everyone for supporting local charities during these challenging times and for helping to build stronger communities.
