Summer camp is set to return to the town of Lincoln and for the second year in a row, it is adjusted for COVID-19 protocols.

“We are looking forward to a second year of camp, under COVID guidelines, we are following the Ministry of Health guidelines to day camps. and we are actually very excited about camp,” said Lori Laird, recreation coordinator for the Town of Lincoln.

Registration is now open and Laird said that the response from the community has been “excellent.”

Summer camps, exclusively taking the form of day-camps this summer, will operate at several different locations in and around Lincoln. These include the Fleming Centre, and the town-owned building at 4996 Beam Street (formerly the temporary Lincoln Museum) in Beamsville, Jordan Arena, the Lincoln Museum and Bomberry park.

The town in accepting children four to 12 years of age and camps will be running 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday from July 5 to Aug. 27.

The wearing of masks for both staff and campers, daily screenings, enhanced cleaning of equipment and locations are all part of COVID protocols for this summer’s camp. Laird said activities and games have been modified to ensure physical distancing and even high-fives will be avoided to minimize physical contact.

Separate bathrooms, separate equipment, specifically organized pick up and drop off times are all things the camp is taking into account to ensure safety. Children will also be staying within specific cohorts and will not be interacting with other cohorts of children.

Specialized activity kits are also available via curbside pick up for those opting to stay home this summer rather than attend camp. The kit will include modified camp activities that can be done from home.
