COVID-19: Six deaths reported in Niagara on Thursday

Niagaras public health agency reported six new deaths related to the COVID-19 pandemic on Thursday, as the new death toll stands at 476.

According to Niagara Health, five fatalities were logged between January 25 and 26, which consisted of Niagara residents who had been admitted to area hospitals.

The increase comes as the hospital system is caring for 94 residents who are being treated primarily for COVID-19, and 35 others who have tested positive but primarily are being treated for other conditions.

26 people are currently being cared for in the ICU, of whom 14 are unvaccinated.

219 new cases were reported on January 27, along with 329 recoveries, bringing active cases to 3,461.

Ina Grafton Retirement Home in St Catharines is the latest healthcare institution to report an outbreak of the virus in its entire facility.
