COVID-19; Active cases in Niagara now under 400 following Thursday update

The number of known active COVID-19 cases in Niagara dropped below 400 on Thursday for the first time in several months.

17 cases were reported in today's update, which also featured 40 new recoveries and no changes to the regional death toll.

In updates this week, NRPH also added a significant number of confirmed variant cases to its reporting, showing over 4,100 cases of the B.1.1.7 (U.K)-variant have been confirmed.

The number of P.1 (Brazil)-variant also increased to 10 detected.

One new outbreak was reported, bringing the total to 16. Three of those are in healthcare facilities. 

25 patients are being cared for in Niagara Health's hospitals.

Provincially, 590 COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths were reported on Thursday.
