COVID-19: 61 new cases, new retirement home outbreak on Friday in Niagara

The number of known COVID-19 cases in Niagara has once again passed 400, after another 61 cases were confirmed on Friday in another large single-day increase. A daily number this high has not been recorded since Februay 5, according to regional statistics. There are now 27 known active cases in Thorold. Similar numbers are noted in Grimsby, West Lincoln, and Lincoln. 

St Catharines remain at the top of the list with 96 known active cases.

Three new outbreaks were confirmed, of which one is located at Garrison Place Retirement in Fort Erie.

259 variant cases have been confirmed, of which 7 have been determined as the U.K-variant of the COVID-19 virus.

Friday marked another day of rising numbers in the province as well. Ontario reported over 2,100 cases and 12 more deaths.

Premier Doug Ford is slated to make an announcement today at 1 P.M.
