Niagara’s public health agency reported 42 new cases of COVID-19 on the first day of March. As of Tuesday, the official tally showed 1,300 cases active in municipalities across the region, with 64 cases hospitalized but no patients on ventilators.
In the past 28 days, Thorold has seen 182 cases, St. Catharines just over 1,500 and Niagara Falls just under 1,000.
There are 10 active outbreaks, the majority of them in long-term care or retirement settings. No new outbreaks were reported on March 1.
The death toll remained at 518, after some increases last week.
