COVID-19: 3 new cases in Niagara today (August 9)

Area hospitals still report no patients who tested positive for the virus

After a weekend with 6 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Niagara, Public Health announced another 3 cases were confirmed on Monday.

Following 5 new recoveries, there were 50 active known cases in the region as of Monday at noon.

The death toll has remained unchanged at 420 for more than a week.

No new outbreaks were reported, leaving a single outbreak active on August 9.

Ontario update

Public Health Ontario reported 325 new COVID cases and zero deaths in today's update (Aug. 9). 

Case counts, per cent positivity and active cases have all increased over the weekend.

The report includes 192 new recoveries. 

The August 9 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 2,375 active, lab-confirmed cases, up from 2,242 yesterday.
  • 94 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario.
  • There are 113 patients in intensive care units with COVID-related illness (of those, 30 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • 70 people are on ventilators due to COVID-related illness (of those, 19 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • The province reported 15,805 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 2.3 per cent positivity rate. 
  • There are 4,719 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 16.6 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 23 are from Waterloo, 90 are from Toronto, 47 cases are from Peel, 10 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, 11 are from Grey-Bruce, and 29 are from York Region.
  • Today's cases include 72 individuals aged 19 and under, 157 people between 20 and 39 years old, 67 people between 40 and 59 years old, 22 people between 60 and 79 years old, and three people over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 552,804 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 541,022 recoveries and 9,407 deaths.
