NRPH reported 195 new cases of Covid-19 in Niagara today.
Thursday’s number comes as 59 residents are hospitalized with the virus, of whom 29 are being primarily treated for it, and 5 requiring care in the ICU.
According to the official tally, which remains unreliable due to constraints on testing, the 6th wave of the pandemic currently has rendered 1,864 cases in the community active. The cases are primarily found in St. Catharines, which has seen over 1,000 new cases in the last 28 days. Thorold has seen 169 in the same time frame.
9 healthcare settings in Niagara are reporting active outbreaks of the virus, including Unit D at Niagara Falls hospital. The full list can be viewed here.
The increase of cases in the community led Niagara Health to announce the return of visitor restrictions.
Starting Thursday, April 14, only one visitor or Essential Care Partner (ECP) will be permitted at the bedside for inpatient units, including Labour and Delivery and NICU. There is no change for outpatient, Emergency Department (ED) and Urgent Care Centres (UCC), where patients can continue to bring one person to support them.
