COVID-19: 103 patients being treated for the virus in area hospitals

103 patients in Niagara are being treated primarily for COVID-19 in area hospitals.

The health system reported two more patients had died on Tuesday after testing positive for the virus.

470 residents have now passed away after testing positive since the pandemic began.

‘We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the patients' loved ones during this difficult time,’ Niagara Health wrote.

Public Health reported 225 new cases and 3,585 active known cases on Wednesday, cautioning that the numbers do not show the true number of community cases.

Booster statistics show the highest uptake has been in ages 80+, with close to 86 percent coverage as well as ages 75-79 with close to 89 percent.

Lower age groups, such as 30-39 has around 34 percent of residents boosted.
