The city is hoping that residents have their shovels ready ahead of the next winter storm event.

The area is expected to receive 20 to 30 cm by Thursday night just as sidewalks and driveways conquered the remnants of the harsh weather two weeks ago.

Snowfall rates may reach up to 2 cm per hour at times during the coming snow event.

"Bylaw does enforce sidewalk bylaws. Some sidewalks that don’t get plowed. If we do have the staff and equipment available, we will do it based on the level of the storm, but it is something we need to address in the future," said Public Works manager Steve Santo to council last night.

"Hopefully we can get more residents on board to clean their sidewalks in a timely manner."

According to city bylaw, residents are required to clear sidewalks within 24 hours, but bylaw official Jason Simpson said the city is aware of the potential severity of each storm.

“Given the severity of the storm we just had, we are trying to be more lenient with that timeline. We don’t have a specific one in mind, but our departments will work together so that we are not penalizing residents for not cleaning their sidewalks when the city has not been able to clear our own.”
