The city is gearing up for the special anniversary of the Santa Claus Parade, which is taking place this Saturday at 4 p.m. in Thorold’s downtown core.

Thorold Fire and Emergency Services will lead the parade beginning at the intersection of Sullivan Ave. and Collier Rd. N. Floats will proceed down Sullivan Ave., turn left onto Front St., and finish at the intersection of Front St. and Regent St. Sidewalks will be open for spectators to view the parade along Sullivan Ave. and Front St.

“This year, we recognize how truly significant the parade is for our Community. Not only are we returning to an in-person event, but we’re celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the parade,” says Mayor Terry Ugulini.  “I’d like to thank the Special Events Committee, City Staff and Volunteers who have been working behind the scenes the last few months to bring all the holiday planning and creative ideas to life. This weekend will be a special opportunity for our Community to come together and officially kick off the Holiday Season in the City of Thorold.”

With special appearances by Elsa, Mirabel, Bruno, Mr. and Mrs. Claus, the parade will feature an array of festive community floats, musical talents, parade marchers and other family fun entertainment. Free hot chocolate, popcorn and balloon animals will be available at the Prince of Wales School parking lot beginning at 4 p.m., with the festive face painting station opening at 4:30 p.m. All activities and snacks will be available at the school until 6 p.m.

“Each year, we see the parade bring hundreds of Thorold residents together to celebrate the cheerful holiday season,” says Councillor Nella Dekker, who is part of the City’s Special Events Committee. “We have nearly 40 entries in the parade this year, including a variety of community organizations, sports teams, small businesses… the list goes on. We can’t wait to see everyone out on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the return of the Santa Claus Parade!”

Parade attendees are encouraged to take photos at the parade and tag the City in their posts on Facebook (City of Thorold), Twitter (@ThoroldON) and Instagram (@ThoroldON) with the hashtag #ThoroldSantaClausParade to be featured on the City’s social media pages.
