Mayor Terry Ugulini along with councillors Fred Neale and John Kenny were at city hall today to support Crime Stoppers.

The flag-raising ceremony is to bring awareness to the community to fight against crime.

"Crime Stoppers is a great method for people to stand up against crime and to do the right thing without fear of reprisals," said a statement issued by city hall staff.

The program, which operates in many communities in North America, allows persons to provide anonymous information about criminal activity.

Overall, there are more than 1,200 different Crime Stoppers organizations across the world. Here in Ontario, there are 29 Crime Stoppers.

Crime Stoppers of Niagara Inc. is described as a "Citizen, media and police cooperative program designed to involve the community in the fight against crime," according to their website.

City staff said the flag will remain raised for the duration of the month.
