Brock University is now joining in the choir of voices telling students to behave ahead of the upcoming Halloween weekend, by urging to not ‘Put the Bad in Badger’ as the traditionally party-heavy weekend approaches.
The calls come amid sharp warnings from the city, which has promised increased patrols in the Winterberry/Juneberry area this weekend to crack down on partying and disturbances which have plagued the area since students returned to on-campus learning.
“We have seen many issues arise in the province so far this fall, with students making poor decisions that adversely affect their local communities,” said Brock University Interim President Lynn Wells in a statement.
“As a part of this Niagara community, it is important for us to educate our students and make them aware of alternatives to attending unlawful and unsafe gatherings.”
Despite relaxed measures in recent months, current public health regulations still prohibit large gatherings, which bylaw officials have said will be ticketed.
To dissuade rowdy parties, Brock is offering its students a range of sanctioned events, including trips to a St Catharines escape room, horror movie screenings, a workshop on how to be culturally sensitive when choosing a costume.
