Neither high winds nor holiday hustle could stop this year's ToolBox Niagara's annual package delivery to Community Care.

On Thursday afternoon, a delegation from Thorold Fire met with ToolBox organizer James Symons and Matt Cuthbert of Niagara Furniture Bank to drop off more than 40 pre-packaged bags holding warm winter apparel such as socks and toques, bodywash and more, intended for Niagara's vulnerable members of society.

"As always, we're grateful," Symons said as the last few items were handed over.

"Thorold Fire really stepped in and the bins at all stations were full."

Packaged in handy portable bags, the kits will directly reach some of Niagara's over 700 unhoused individuals who often have to make hard choices between staying warm and eating.

Matt Cuthbert of Niagara Furniture bank said the situation at regional homeless shelters currently is strained, due to operating capacities being affecred by the pandemic.

"So these kits take the guesswork out of it and they go directly to the people who need them. That's the neat part."

Since the start of the ToolBox campaign, more than 500 kits have been delivered.
