16 new cases of COVID-19 in Niagara on Wednesday

Province reports 572 new cases, mostly among unvaccinated people

NRPH reports 16 new cases of COVID-19 in the region on Wednesday.

Following 8 recoveries, the number of known active cases is now 143.

9 of those are in Thorold, while 39 are in Niagara Falls and 47 in St Catharines.

One new outbreak was added to the 4 outbreaks currently being tracked by Niagara Public Health.

None of the outbreaks are located in health-care facilities, however Gilmore Lodge in Fort Erie is currently dealing with an outbreak of Rhinovirus.

Niagara Health is currently caring for 4 COVID-19 patients.

Ontario update

 

Public Health Ontario reported 660 new COVID cases today for Aug. 24. 

The latest update noted 572 recoveries and the death of one person between 60 and 79 years old.

There have been 71 new hospitalizations since yesterday's report and 12 COVID patients have been admitted to intensive care.

The Aug. 25 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

Of the new cases reported today, 398 were unvaccinated people, 74 were partially vaccinated, 135 were fully vaccinated, and 53 are listed as vaccination status unknown.

  • 5,140 active, lab-confirmed cases, up from 5,053 yesterday.
  • 283 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario.
  • Hospitalized cases (excluding ICU) include 135 unvaccinated people, 11 partially vaccinated, and 30 full vaccinated.
  • There are 130 COVID-positive patients in intensive care, plus another 31 patients who no longer test positive for COVID-19. 
  • 73 COVID patients are on ventilators and another 19 patients on ventilators no longer test positive for COVID-19.
  • ICU and ventilated cases include 78 unvaccinated people, nine partially vaccinated, and seven fully vaccinated.
  • 9,819,677 Ontarians (about 66 per cent of total population) have been fully vaccinated and another 927,119 have a single dose of COVID vaccine.
  • The province reported 26,406 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 2.4 per cent positivity rate. Provincial labs have processed 17 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today 151 are from Toronto, 52 are from Peel, 24 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 93 are from York Region.
  • Today's cases include 86 individuals under 12 years old, 81 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 278 people between 20 and 39 years old, 156 people between 40 and 59 years old, 52 people between 60 and 79 years old, and eight people over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 561,297 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 546,685 recoveries and 9,472 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,809.5 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 28.1 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 24.9 per cent from the week of Aug. 9.
