Welland resident facing firearms charges following lengthy police investigation

In July of 2021, detectives with 3 District (Welland) began an investigation in relation to firearms in the area of Darby Road and Schisler Road, in the City of Welland.

On Sept. 1, 2021, with assistance from the 3 District Street Crime Unit and the Emergency Task Unit, detectives executed a warrant in the area of Darby Road and Schisler Road. As a result, a Remington 770 rifle was located and two rounds of ammunition.

Michael J. Racine (54 years old) of Welland, was charged with the following offences of:

  • Careless storage of firearm
  • Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized

Racine was held in custody pending a bail hearing that was expected to take place on Sept. 2, 2021.
