Victim critically injured during disturbance in Welland

Police seek suspect, investigation ongoing

On May 5, 2021, at approximately 11:54pm 3 District – Welland uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a disturbance in Welland.

Officers arrived on scene in the area of 260 King Street (between Albert Street and State Street) and located a lone male in his 50’s suffering from critical injuries. The man was treated and transported from the scene by Niagara Emergency Services paramedics to a local hospital in critical condition.

The initial investigation determined the victim had been physically assault where he was located. The suspected ran from the area just prior to the police arriving. A NRPS Canine Unit track in the area was not able to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as:

  • White male 
  • 30 – 40 years of age 
  • Tall slim build 
  • Short dark hair 
  • Dark hoodie 
  • The suspect was also walking a large brindle coloured bull mastiff type dog

The investigation has been assigned to 3 District detectives. 

Anyone (residents or businesses) in the area with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period starting on May 5, 2021 at 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. on May 6, 2021.
