On Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019 at approximately 6 a.m., 1 District (St. Catharines) uniform officers were called to the area of Welland Avenue and Clark Street in the City of St. Catharines.
When officers arrived, they found a deceased dog. A resulting animal cruelty investigation with the assistance of 1 District Detective has revealed that the 14-month old dog was left tied to the railing and subsequently died due to asphyxiation
A male and female were identified, arrested and charged.
Twenty-eight-year-old Robert Ripley of the City of St. Catharines is facing the following alleged charges:
- Causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, contrary to Section 445.1 (1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
- Failure to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1 (1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
Forty-six-year-old Tanya Keddy of the City of St. Catharines is facing the following alleged charge:
- Causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, contrary to Section 445.1 (1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
Both Ripley and Keddy are currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019 at the Robert S. K Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.
