Two charged in St. Catharines stabbing investigation

Both parties treated for minor injuries

At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, 1 District (St. Catharines) uniform officers were called to the area of Church Street and Queenton Street in the City of St. Catharines following the report of a stabbing.

When officers arrived, a 31-year-old female and 39-year-old male were discovered with injuries following an altercation.

They were both transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Following further investigation, the 39-year-old male was subsequently taken into custody and is facing the following alleged charge:
    •    Assault (spousal) contrary to s. 266 of the Criminal Code

The 31-year-old female was also taken into custody and is facing the following alleged charge:
    •    Assault with a weapon contrary to s. 267(a) of the Criminal Code

Both the male and female are currently being held in custody pending bail hearings on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.

As this incident is being investigated by detectives with the Domestic Violence Unit, (DVU) the names of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victims.
