Two charged in Niagara Falls firearms investigation

In March of 2021, detectives from the Niagara Falls Street Crime Unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) began a firearm related investigation in the City of Niagara Falls.

The investigation led detectives to identify a male and female suspect, with suspected firearms in a residence.

On April 6, 2021, detectives executed a warrant at a residence in the area of Kalar Road and Progress Street in the City of Niagara Falls. As a result, detectives seized an unbranded black pump action shotgun with six shotgun shells loaded inside of the magazine and approximately 650 rounds of 7.62 ammunition which is commonly used in rifles. Detectives also seized two replica rifles that were determined to be pellet guns, and a replica pistol for investigative purposes.

Jason Gorman (38 years old) of Niagara Falls, was arrested and charged with the following offences of:
    •    Possession of a firearm other than a restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence
    •    Possession of a firearm knowing that he was not the holder of a licence which he may possess it
    •    Careless storage of a firearm, weapon or prohibited device
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime

Gorman was held in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on April 7, 2021.

Krista Belward (36 years old) from Niagara Falls, was arrested and charged with the following offences of:
    •    Possession of a firearm other than a restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence
    •    Possession of a firearm knowing that he was not the holder of a licence which he may possess it
    •    Careless storage of a firearm, weapon or prohibited device
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime

Belward was held in custody and is expected to appear in court on April 7, 2021.
