Two arrested in Fort Erie stabbing investigation

On May 6, 2021 at approximately 10 p.m. Niagara Regional Police and Niagara EMS responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence in the area of Highland Avenue and Central Avenue in the Town of Fort Erie.

A 52-year-old male victim was located and transported to an out of town hospital where he received treatment and is in stable condition.

The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of two suspects who were located a short time later.

Steven Strauss (36 years old) of Fort Erie is charged with:
    •    Aggravated assault, section 268(1) CC

Matt Ward (43 years old) of Fort Erie is charged with:
    •    Aggravated assault, section 268(1) CC
    •    Fail to comply with probation order x2, section 733.1(1) CC

Strauss and Ward will be held in custody pending the outcome of a video bail hearing. The bail hearing is scheduled to take at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on May 7, 2021.

The incident is believed to be targeted. All suspects are accounted for.
