Two arrested in connection with commercial break-ins

The 'smash and grab' style break-ins happened earlier this month in Niagara region

Detectives from the 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara on the Lake) Street Crime Unit of the Niagara Regional Police Service have been investigating a series of linked commercial break and enters in St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake. 

On July 5, 2023, several businesses in the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake fell victim to “smash and grab” style break and enters. On July 14 and 15 more businesses in Niagara Falls were also targeted by the same [alleged] suspects resulting in the loss of thousands of dollars in merchandise and damage to property. The suspects [are alleged to have] committed the break and enters by breaking a window on the front of the business. 

The investigation led to the identification of two suspects. The suspects (son and mother) were arrested on July 22, 2023.

Dominick Matthew Waindubence (19 years) of London was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Break enter commit theft (nine counts)
  • Theft from automobile under $5,000
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Mischief under $5,000

Tonya Marie Waindubence (43 years) of London was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Break enter commit theft
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000

The Waindubences were held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on July 23, 2023. They were both denied release, and their next court date is July 25, 2023.
