On Monday, April 12, 2021, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Niagara Regional Police (NRPS) 1 District (St. Catharines) uniform officers responded to the parking lot of Oakridge Public School, 1 Marsdale Drive, in the City of St. Catharines for reports of a male laying on the ground.

When police arrived, they located 32-year-old Yan Jing with gunshot wounds.

Jing was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

A subsequent investigation by NRPS Homicide Detectives discovered that Jing was the target of an alleged robbery that occurred during a currency exchange.
