Thorold driver accused of fleeing police, hitting cruiser

On June 16, 2022 at approximately 8:45 a.m., 1 District St. Catharines uniform officer from the Niagara Regional Police Service was in the area of Woodrow Street and Dunvegan Road in St. Catharines. The officer observed a 2008 grey Cadillac CTS fail to stop at a stop sign.

The officer conducted a Highway Traffic Act stop on the Cadillac. The male driver was unable to produce an Ontario driver's license when asked to do so. The driver provided a false name and date of birth. When the officer questioned the driver further about his identity, the driver placed the car in drive and fled the traffic stop.

In fleeing the traffic stop the driver proceeded to strike a marked police cruiser, narrowly missed a pedestrian walking on Dunvegan Road, and then hit a concrete support pole with his vehicle. The damaged Cadillac came to a stop, and the driver ran into a nearby wooded area.

Numerous officers responded to the area and at 9 a.m. he was located and arrested near Carriage Road and Rampart Drive with out further incident.

Upon determining the driver’s identity, it was discovered that his Ontario driver’s licence was suspended, and was wanted for failing to comply with release order and failing to comply with probation.

Corey Randolph Davidson (24 years) of Thorold has been arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer, Sec. 129(a) CC
  • Flight From Police, Sec. 320.17 CC
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Sec. 320.13 CC
  • Failing to Comply with Probation Order, Sec. 733.1(1) CC
  • Disobey Stop Sign, Sec. 136(1)(a) HTA
  • Driving While Under Suspension, Sec. 53(1) HTA
  • Fail to Remain, Sec. 200(1)(a) HTA

Davidson was held in custody and will attend a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on June 17, 2022.
