SIU finds 'no criminal wrongdoing' in 2020 death of woman in Niagara Falls

On May 21, 2020, a 24-year-old woman passed away of a drug overdose while inside her cell. The officer in charge of the station when the woman was in custody, was identified as the subject officer (SO) for purposes of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) investigation. SIU Director, Joseph Martino, has determined there is no basis for proceeding with criminal charges in this case and the file is closed.
