Police seize over $86K in drugs, jewelry during bust in St. Catharines

Police also seized over $24,000 in cash; a 35-year-old Toronto resident faces multiple charges as a result

Since June of 2021, 1 District St. Catharines Street Crime Unit detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) have been investigating the sale of illegal narcotics in the city of St. Catharines.

That investigation led to the identification of a male suspect.

On July 30, 2021, detectives were granted search warrants to four locations and a 2007 grey Honda.  The locations included residences in: 

  • St. Catharines (St. Paul Street near Court Street) 
  • St. Catharines (Read Road near Lakeshore Road) 
  • Toronto (York Mills Road near Sandover Drive)

An orchard on Read Road near Lakeshore Road in Niagara on the Lake was also searched.

Officers from the NRPS Emergency Task Unit and uniform officers from our 1 District St. Catharines office assisted with the St. Catharines warrants.  Officers from the Toronto Police assisted with the warrant in their jurisdiction.

The suspect was located at the St. Paul Street location and arrested.

As a result of the search warrants at all the locations the total amount of the drugs seized is: 

  • 131 grams of crack cocaine 
  • 12.9 grams of fentanyl 
  • 133.8 grams of mdma 
  • 42 hyrdromorphone pills

The estimated street value of the seized drugs is $33,090 CAD. Detectives also seized cash ($24,463) and appraised jewelry ($53,550) as proceeds of crime.

Jermin George Wilkins (35 years old) of Toronto has been arrested and charged with the offences of: 

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (Cocaine) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA 
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (Fentanyl) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA 
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (Hydromorphone) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA 
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (MDMA) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA 
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 contrary to section 355(a) CC

Wilkins was held in custody and will attend a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on July 31, 2021.
