Police seize air pistol, suspected meth, fentanyl during armed person call in St. Catharines

The accused was allegedly seen pulling a handgun from his waist before pointing and threatening a member of the public after a verbal altercation

On Wednesday June 9, 2021, at approximately 12:30 a.m., 1 District St. Catharines uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service were called to the downtown area of St. Catharines for a report of an armed person.

A call to 911 reported that a member of the public had become involved in an verbal argument with a man who was walking on Geneva Street near Centre Street.  The man on the street was observed to pull a handgun from his waist and point and threaten a member of the public.

At 12:31 a.m., Officers attended the area and located the man nearby.  He was arrested for weapons offences shortly thereafter.

A search of the man incident to his arrest located the following: 

  • An air pistol 
  • Suspected crystal methamphetamine 
  • 5 Stolen credit cards
  • A stolen drivers licence and social insurance card 
  • Suspected fentanyl

Anthony White (32 years old) of no fixed address has been arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Use Imitation Firearm in the Commission of an offence - Section 85. 2(a)  C.C 
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose - Section 88.(1) C.C 
  • Uttering threats to cause death - Section 264.1(1) C.C  
  • Possession of a schedule I substance (Methamphetamine) - Section 4(1) CDSA 
  • Possession of a credit card obtained by the commission in Canada of an offence - Section 342. (1) (c) C.C (5 Counts) 
  • Possession of identity documents - Section 56.1(1) C.C (2 Counts) • Possession of a schedule I substance (Fentanyl) - Section 4(1) CDSA 
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order - Section 733.1(1) C.C (2 Counts)

White was held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on June 9, 2021.
