Since November 2018, members of the Guns, Gangs and Grows Unit and the Opioid Unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service have been investigating the sales of cocaine and heroin/fentanyl from a Sunset Way address in the City of Thorold. During the investigation Police identified a male (allegedly) responsible for the sale of drugs from this residence.
On Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019 at approximately 4 p.m., members of the Emergency Tactical Unit arrested this male after he left his residence. Shortly after, Police executed a search warrant at his residence and conducted a search. This search resulted in the seizure of powder cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin.
Also found during the search was 540 rounds of handgun ammunition. The person arrested was bound by a prohibition order not to be in possession of any ammunition.
Arrested and charged is 36-year-old Thorold resident Jason Thurbide. Thurbide is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking x2, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, possession of ammunition knowing no authority to possess and possession of ammunition contrary to prohibition order.
In total, Police seized $13,600 in powder cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin, and $1,525 in currency believed to be proceeds of drug sales.
Thurbide was held pending a bail hearing set for Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019.
