Police make another arrest related to Fort Erie double homicide

The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Homicide Unit detectives continue to investigate the murders of 20-year-old Juliana Pannunzio and 18-year-old Christine Crooks.

As a result, on Wednesday Sept. 1,  2021, 29-year-old Trevor Barnett of Scarborough was arrested and is now facing the following charge in connection to the murders:

  • Accessory after the fact to murder contrary to section 240 of the Criminal Code.

At the time of his arrest, Barnett was in the company of 25-year-old Tenae Brown of Markham and both were found to be in possession of a quantity of illegal drugs.

As a result, Trevor Barnett and Tenae Brown are facing the following separate charge:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule I substance contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Barnett and Brown are currently being held in custody pending a court appearance on Thursday Sept. 2, 2021 at the Robert S.K. Welch Court House in St. Catharines.

The arrests in relation to the murders of Juliana Pannunzio and Christine Crooks culminates an extensive investigation by the Homicide Unit of the Niagara Regional Police Service which started on January 19, 2021 in the Town of Fort Erie. Several individuals from outside the Niagara Region attended a rental property for a birthday party when these murders occurred.

Some of the people in attendance that night have still refused to cooperate. Police are strongly encouraging those individuals to finally come forward and speak with detectives at this time.

The Niagara Regional Police Service would like to thank members of the public for their continued cooperation and assistance in this matter.

Since this is still an active investigation no further information will be released at this time.
