Police identify suspect in Welland stabbing

Niagara Regional Police Service has identified the suspect in relation to the stabbing incident that occurred in Welland earlier today.

Niagara Regional Police Service has identified the suspect in relation to the stabbing incident that occurred in Welland earlier today, leaving a male victim in his 30s with now non-life-threatening injuries. 

The victim remains in hospital. 

Police describe the suspect, a 50-year-old man from Buffalo, New York, as a black male with short black hair, brown eyes and glasses. 

He is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Police also say he is believed be trying to get back to Buffalo.

3 District – Welland detectives have continued to investigate this stabbing incident. The victim’s condition has been upgraded, and their injuries are no longer believed to be life threatening. The victim remains in hospital.

Detectives have identified the suspect. Alexander Dwight Beverly Sr., a 50-year-old man from Buffalo, New York, is wanted for the Criminal Code offences of:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Uttering threats (death/harm)

Beverly’s current location is unknown. His current method of transportation is unknown. Beverly has ties to the downtown areas of Welland and Niagara Falls. It is believed he may also be trying to get back to Buffalo, New York.

Beverly is described as:

  • black male
  • 5’11” ft. tall
  • approximately 180lbs.
  • wearing glasses
  • short black hair
  • brown eyes

Beverly’s clothing at the time of this incident is described as:

  • black and white striped running shoes
  • green fitted pants
  • fitted workout top
  • orange sherpa/fuzzy vest
  • blue hooded rain jacket
  • Blue Jays baseball cap under a beige toque with ear flaps
  • large green camping style backpack
  • black satchel

The suspect has in the past used the alias’ 'Victor VENT' or 'Victor FENCE.'

Members of the public who may see him or know his location are asked not to confront him and call their local police. 

He should be considered armed and dangerous.

The investigation remains ongoing by 3 District detectives.  Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1003306.
